Over thirty years ago, during a school trip in Italy, I came along in Amalfi for the first time. It was a rapid ride on the bus along an unknown piece of Italy. It was cloudy with some bright intervals and what has always stuck in my memory is the brilliant reflection of the sun on the water.
A few years later, I went back as a backpack-tourist, and stayed a few nights in the hostel at Praiano. The best memory of this stay was the "sopa di pesce", the bill of which remained as a souvenir in my wallet for many years.
It took almost thirty years before we got back to Amalfi. After our trips to Madeira and Cinque Terre we were looking for a similar challenge. The Amafi coast was not yet forgotten. Some specific searches on the Internet opened new perspectives: there was more to see than the panorama's from the Strada Statale. In the hills, or the mountains, behind the coast there are beautiful trails. Instead of a "day trip" we spent seven wonderful days on the Amalfi coast, of which you can see the result on this site
We made the trip early in the season (end April), so we escaped the oppressive heat and the crowds of tourists which in the summer season are a plague to the Amalfi coast. We had to cope with some rain showers, but this was more than offset by the spectacle of the falls on our walks from Amalfi.
The Sentiero degli Dei has not stolen its name: a real Path of teh Gods, high in the hills above the coast.
On our site you can already enjoy all this beauty, but better yet ... go over there. Take the plane to Napoli, rent a car and pull into a true hiking paradise.
You won't regret it!
